COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Ms. Wallace has facilitated and implemented community resources via outreach. Additional work in evidence based research and treatment planning in the following clinical contexts: crisis intervention and suicide prevention, screening clinician, adult psychiatric (psychopathology), hospice, gerontological, as well as children with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

 

CLINICAL WORK IN HOSPICE CARE

—Provide psychotherapy/grief counseling support to patient and patient families. 

—Provide music psychotherapy support and comfort care 

—Utilize appropriate referral protocol for population 

—Observe clients in music and non-musical settings to set appropriate therapeutic goals 

—Provide in-service to educate staff on Creative Arts Therapy/Music Therapy (as well as the psychotherapeutic components)     

—Families in the treatment planning and treatment process when appropriate 

—Provide written documentation that demonstrates evidence based outcomes related to goals/interventions. 

—Primary caseload diagnosis: Parkinson’s, Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, and Congenital Heart Disease (patients with a six month prognosis) 

—Work with a five person interdisciplinary treatment team that includes Nurse, Physician, Social Worker, Music Therapist and Chaplain to provide Holistic Care

–Provide evaluation and assessment for treatment

–Provide treatment planning

–Provide clinical treatment documentation

–Provide comfort care/spiritual support to address depression

–Provide sensory stimulation

–Integrated family sessions/provide emotional support to families (patient transition)

–Provide opportunities for meaningful interactions among family members

–Facilitate reminiscence and life review

–Provide quality of life care (transitioning patients)

–Clinical documentation

–Work with interdisciplinary team provide whole person support including emotional support for patient and patient families

 

CLINICAL WORK WITH CHILDREN ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM

—Facilitate children with engaged focus in group experiences

—Assist children with delayed sensory motor planning

—Facilitate children with expressive language skills

—Document, monitor and assess changes in child behavior

CLINICAL WORK IN THE ADULT PSYCHIATRIC CLINICAL CONTEXT

—Establish non-verbal avenues of communication as a conduit for verbal communication

—Assist patients in providing a fulfilling means of self-expression and identity formation

—Provide a safe environment for creative and verbal self-expression

—Assist clients in identifying feelings associated with independent thinking

—Document, monitor and assess changes in client behavior

—Facilitate group cohesion by-way-of-song-recreation, improvisation, song writing and verbal discussion

 

CLINICAL WORK WITH THE GERONTOLOGICAL CLINICAL CONTEXT

—Provide patient transitional support

—Assist less alert clients in becoming alert and engaged in group activities

—Assist clients with facilitation of movement experiences and exercise

—Facilitate crisis intervention techniques that included:

—Verbal discussion, auditory-musical touch and listening to clients when needed

—Document, monitor and assess changes in client behavior
